As some of you may now know, we’ve been working on something special for the last few months. Showbox is partnering up with Black Squirrel Books & Espresso to run a new DIY arts space in Ottawa called Cinqhole. It’s located in the heart of Hintonburg just west of Centertown at 5b Fairmont Avenue, and is the site of the former General Assembly arts space.
When the opportunity presented itself, we couldn’t pass it up. Running an arts space has been a Showbox dream for a long time, and now is the perfect moment to do it.
Cinqhole is a place that is centred around the arts, helping to elevate local artists—particularly those whom are marginalized or may not have been granted the opportunities that more mainstream artists have. To us, art is for everyone, and we have such a respect for the ground-level artists that continue to produce works. It is a place for experimentation and pushing boundaries.
Photographer Conor Murphy was on-hand to get some great shots of our Grand Opening Lot Party last weekend. We hope you’ll swing on by soon and see Cinqhole for yourself.
