CityFolk 2019 Initial Lineup Announced

CityFolk returns to Lansdowne Park once again September 12-15, 2019, and the four-day festival will see many impressive acts hit the stages this year.

The stand-out act for most rock and roll enthusiasts is Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters, who have been active since 2012. The former Led Zeppelin vocalist is still very much active on the touring circuit and boasts vocals that still sound like they did in 1965. While the band has yet to release a studio album, their Live in London July ’12 album was released digitally in 2012. Fans of Led Zeppelin are likely to hear some classics from Plant, as hes been known to play songs like “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You,” “Whole Lotta Love,” and “Black Dog” in their live sets along with original compositions.

Other well-known acts playing this year’s CityFolk are Lucinda Williams, Dear Rouge, Lucy Dacus, Saul Williams, and Leon Bridges.

As a treat for us 90s kids, Our Lady Peace, LIVE, and Bush are bringing their nostalgic tour to Ottawa for CityFolk. The three groups were part of the post-grunge alternative rock tide that swept the world in the late 90s, and Bush even has a new song called “Bullet Holes” that is featured on the new John Wick: Chapter 3 soundtrack.

Some notable additions to the lineup that are garnering a lot of buzz in the industry these days are leather fringe-mask-wearing crooner Orville Peck, Polaris-nominated indigenous hip hop group Snotty Nose Rez Kids, and banjo-picking wonders The East Pointers. There could be more acts announced, too, so we’ll update this post as more information gets released.

Also returning this year is the free local music programming at Marvest. While that lineup has yet to be announced, we can certainly expect a lot of great Ottawa acts to be playing this September.

Pre-sale tickets go on sale May 23 at 10 a.m. and regular passes for the general public go on sale on Friday, May 24 at 10 a.m. More ticket and festival info can be found on the CityFolk website.
