Earlier this month, Ottawa drum and bass duo Big Dick released their sophomore LP Disappointment through Dirt Cult Recs, playing a handful of the new tracks in front of a sizeable crowd at House of Targ. They’ve followed this up with the timely release of their new video for the lead single off the LP called “Let Down.”
The video is directed by Sammy Lewis, a.k.a. Sammy J. Scorpion, of the much loved and notorious Ottawa party punkers New Swears. If you’ve ever seen any music videos by New Swears, you will notice that this one is pretty tame in comparison. However, the video for “Let Down” takes the same stylistic approach and starts off with a bunch of shitty furniture being thrown against a wall during the opening riff. There’s some sense of satisfaction watching things get busted over a soundtrack – everyone loves the scene in Office Space where they go to work on the copier with baseball bats. The video also features a pantless, moustachioed character that appears to be a genuine unapproachable, unavoidable let down. I mean, he even drops his bowl of Fruit Loops. It doesn’t get much worst than that.
Big Dick’s next show in Ottawa is on March 28 at Club SAW for Doldrums Festival.
