Are you a 13- to 17-year-old girl or know one that is searching for their inner Patti Smith, Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Debbie Harry or Janis Joplin? Well, you are in luck. Ottawa Rock Camp for Girls, a local non-profit, three-day music camp for girls aged 13 to 17, is now open for registration for this year’s camp happening October 24th to 26th.
The camp is a female-only space, no boys allowed, something quite rare in the music world. Ottawa Rock Camp for Girls provides girls with the opportunity to learn and practice an instrument, form a band, and play songs together in a comfortable, supportive environment. And if that wasn’t cool enough, the weekend concludes with a live concert where the bands formed during camp, each perform a song in front of a live audience.
Campers get to attend workshops throughout the weekend centered on various musical themes including women in rock, stage presence, how to conduct a sound check, and vocal warm ups. It’s only $20 for the entire weekend! And participants do not need any musical experience, just enthusiasm and a desire to be involved in music.
If you are interested, don’t wait too long, as we are told spaces are limited to 26 girls. Registration forms and further information is available on their website: www.ottawarockcampforgirls.com.
