Energetic, sometimes shirtless and wearing cardboard on their heads, The Cardboard Crowns played an unofficial Folkfest after-party Sunday night at the Lowertown Brewery and it was great.
The local boys had played earlier Sunday afternoon on the Hill Stage during Folkfest, a great set that featured a cover of the theme song of the children TV show Arthur. The Lowertown Brewery was the unlikeliest of places to find a ska-punk show, but The Crowns didn’t seem to mind.
I skanked myself sweaty to their many great original tracks, while most remained seated choosing rather to sip on some suds and tap their feet. The band played two sets sprinkling covers throughout them, including covers of Rancid, Misfits and a medley of Sublime songs. But the cover that put a cover on my face from ear-to-ear was “Pint of Guinness Make You Strong” by Against Me. Matias and I got right up close to dance and sing along to one of our favourite punk tracks. What a great way to cap off another wonderful weekend of music in the capital.
Hats off boys you closed out the weekend like no other. It was now time for to go home and rest after five days of music festing and that Monday work alarm being much sooner than desired.
