I don’t know if wiser words have ever been said at House of Targ. Well maybe, but one thing is for sure – the Toronto boys put on one hell of a show. The band introduced themselves and then said “We are from Toronto and we don’t smoke crack.” Ah… pop culture humour is always a good way to go. Their songs feel like a great night in with all your buds and some brews. I mean this in the most complimentary way. I just want to sing their songs all the time and hangout with my friends. Oh what a life that would be.
The five piece always look like they are having fun and House of Targ lent itself to some great antics with singer Brodie Bocelli roaming around dancing and singing over the shoulders of patrons at the arcade. My favourite of his ventures into the crowd was during Road To Victory, when Brodie just sauntered over to the two people playing Mortal Kombat on arcade while he was singing. Alas, as he showed up, one of them suffered defeat and raised his hands in desperate anger. What made this so perfect is that the song’s chorus, “We’re guys – we don’t cry we just get drunk, and fly on the road to victory.” Not everyone can be victorious I suppose. Just don’t miss these guys, really, I promise you will have a blast at every one of their shows, even if you don’t know the words… just remember not to call them chief.
