Songza, the music and lifestyle app known for expertly curated playlists, is expanding its operations into Canada in a big way. While the app has been available to Canadians since 2012, Songza recently set up a physical office in Toronto, hired a team to focus on the Canadian market, and brought on Vanessa Thomas as Managing Director and Alan Cross to help with Canadian curation. Central to the companies’ mission in Canada is a focus on highlighting emerging talent to its expansive user-base, recently reported to have grown to 2.7 million unique Canadians every month.
From Vanessa Thomas: “Songza Canada is so excited to expand its Canadian curation team headed up by Alan Cross, to include expert curators in a variety of formats and regions. We look forward to partnering with all MusicOntario and CIMA members to showcase emerging Canadian talent within the Songza platform to North America.”
Songza is available on the iPhone, Kindle Fire, Android, Windows 8 and BB10, or on the web at Songza.com.
The Cultural Human Resources Council (CHRC) has recently released two resources of interest to MusicOntario members: an updated version of “The Art of Managing Your Career in Music,” and 5 E-Learning courses based on “The Art of Managing Your Career.” Developed by artists and cultural workers, “The Art of Managing Your Career” provides emerging self-employed artists and cultural workers with pertinent and practical information to better manage their careers. In addition, “The Art of Managing Your Career In Music” has been updated in response to the need for more discipline-specific advice and resources.
